Getting Money Organized
Ceri Payne, MEd. Organized Life Coach, joined the podcast to talk all about getting money organized. To get organized in any area you have to figure out what your priorities are and why. Why do you want to pay off debt? Why do you want to save for a vacation? And you have to be very clear in your head about the why. When it gets hard, to save money or say no to spending, or whatever your challenge is, it’s the REASON behind the WHY that is going to keep you on track.
After we get organized we need a plan to get out of debt. And the first thing we need to do is see debt as neutral. Ceri said, ” If you have thoughts that debt is bad, then you feel bad about yourself and your choices. When you feel bad what do you do? If you’re like many of my clients that are dealing with money issues, when they feel bad, they spend money.” Then if we spend money to make us feel better, we continue to spend more money, and this pushes us further from our plan.
“Goals are best achieved when you feel excited, motivated, committed, and from love.” If we are overspending Ceri suggests that we practice what it will feel like when the debt is gone. Imagine how great that would be to say, “We are debt free”. This could be freeing, and can put us in control of our emotions. How can it makes us feel
You might have the thought
- Paying off debt feels amazing
- I want to pay off debt so I can have more options
- Saving money allows me the truest form of freedom
All of these allow us to feel happy, and free. It is important to remember these feelings as we get to Target or somewhere else that encourages us to spend. It takes practice and comes with a lot of rewards if we stick to it.
